Kimchi Hut, Glen Waverley by Bureaucrat

A few weeks ago, I had a rendevous with Beaker for dinner at Kimchi Hut.

KH is a relatively newish Korean restaurant in Glen Waverley, which Beaker and Ms W have said good things about.

Inside it's small but clean and tidy. I don't know about you, but I find Korean restaurants tend to be much smarter and neater than most Asian restaurants. Everything's very clean and proper, and you can tell they're very house proud of their establishments. This is something many restaurants could emulate.

For starters, we got the octopus balls. These were really nice - a light and delicate outer shell with a morish inside. I could easily eat a big plate of these. I love octopus balls, and any similar types (eg bitterballens) of finger foods. Seriously, some one should open up a shop that sells these types of finger foods by the bucket-load.

We also got prawn and veg tempura, which were light and crispy.

Above is the range banchan (small side dishes) that comes with the meal.

For mains, we shared a beef and mixed veg chap chae. This was quite a generous sized dish. Lots of fresh, crisp veggies and the beef was tender, which was a nice contrast to the slippery potato starch noodles.

We also had a hot pot and we ordered some rice to go with it. Unfortunately, I can't quite remember what was in it or the name of the dish. But I do remember that the broth was a nourishing soup with a lovely savoury flavour. This would be excellent on a cold winter's day.

And we liked the cute signs wishing us a fond goodbye.

Verdict
Food - 8
Ambience - 7
Service - 7
Price - 7

Overall
KH is a great addition to the Glen Waverley dining precinct. The food had a nice homely feel to it and the waiters were friendly. The place seems quite popular, as there were many tables that were reserved, and it had many Koreans dining there.

hey ming!
thanks for your comment. it's actually korean food there :)
the prices were reasonable - around the $10-18 range for mains. and they also had the big hot pots for groups, which were quite popular on the night we were there.
