Killiney Kopitiam, Melbourne CBD by Bureaucrat

It was mid-week, after work and we needed dinner in the city.  Having been to Killiney Kopitiam about a year ago, I remember the food being okay.

As such, I thought it was time for a revisit.  However, the quality of the food has taken a dive since then.

I have a fondness for Ipoh sar hor fun (chicken w rice noodles in soup).  This was just not good.  There was a reasonable amount of chicken, but the texture was a bit rubbery and the skin didn’t look appetising.  It was served in a pool of salty soy sauce.  The noodles were the most disappointing – it was just rice noodles in MSG water with some token amount of spring onions and deep fried onions floating around.  There was none of the chicken-prawn broth, chives or anything.  It was all rather unpleasant and I didn’t finish it.

The Lawyer got the nasi lemak with the fish.  This was the better dish of the two, but that’s not saying much.  Three whitings which have obviously been cooked sometime ago, and then deep fried before it was served.  The fish was dry and didn’t have much meat on it.  The rest of the dish was as you see on the plate... honestly, it looked and tasted like they’ve plated up a random assortment of stuff in the kitchen.

Verdict
Food - 5
Ambience - 6.5
Service - 6
Price – 6.5

Overall
Bit of a rip off for what you pay and for you get in return.  Poor quality ingredients and indifferent service.

Whilst the food is so-so, the soy drinks here are very very nice. I've only ever had it cold on a hot's summers day. So refreshing.
