Fish Tank, Brighton by Obelix

Do a quick Google search for the best fish and chips in Melbourne and you are bound to come up with Trip Advisor posts about Fish Tank.  These guys reassuringly serve seafood sourced from Australia.  Based on Church Street, Brighton, on some days (hot summer ones) it is a frenetic hive of activity as beach-goers swarm the place for a feed.

Fish Tank, Brighton, grilled prawns
Grilled prawns

We were hankering for some good old fashion fish and chippery on one of those said hot summer days.  As the place was packed, we ordered ours to take away.

Fish Tank, Brighton, calamari
Kiddo had her usual calamari rings and chips - real calamari rings in a light batter, not the pretend minced seafood shaped into a ring.  Their chips were worth mentioning - they had that extra crispy crumbly coat like they double fried.  Delightful!  These are chips worth the calorie consumption.

Fish Tank, Brighton, seafood basket
I had a seafood basket of sorts with my standing order of a grilled fish, generously sized scallops and a few calamari rings.  I also had a few grilled prawns thrown in (see first pic).  It was seasoned with something I couldn't quite put my finger on (oregano?), but nevertheless it was finger licking good and decently sized.

Fish Tank, Brighton, seafood basket deep fried
P had a similar meal as mine but his was all battered and deep fried.

Overall

Fish Tank does live up to its reputation.  Also have a gander at Bureaucrat's review of the dine-in menu back in 2017.
