My favourites are:
Tempura prawn temaki - I like these partly for the kitsch of a conical shaped sushi wrap (you get more nori, you see). The tempura prawn batter is crispy which is an important sign of freshness.
Dragon roll - love the sliver of smoked eel on top. I normally come across these filled with tuna however this one is filled with a tempura prawn - even better.
Shiitaki inari - I love an inari with its marinated beancurd receptacle slightly sweet and savoury. The shiitaki mushrooms on top make for a pleasant change from the usual seaweed inari.
Salmon aburi - aburis are little nuggets of rice topped with something delicious. In this case it was a sliver of salmon with a smokey flame grilled taste.
Scallop aburi - like the salmon one, the wee little scallops have a distinctive smokey flavour.
Verdict
Overall
Sushi Jiro, nestled in the megacomplex that is Chadstone Shopping Centre, is a good fuel stop for the shopaholics. There is the sushi train for a proper sit down experience, or just order at the counter for a wide selection of handcrafted sushi.Find it at
