On our recent trip to the Gold Coast, we met up with some friends at Terraces Restaurant which is the buffet restaurant within the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort. We were there eight years ago and recalled it to be very kid-friendly dining with the chef rushing off to cook a batch of hot chips when he saw toddler sized Kiddo troop in. So this time around, even though the kids we had with us were much older, we thought it would be a very civilised place to dine.
Seafood abundance...
Terraces does a seafood-centric dinner buffet for $69 per person on a Friday. In terms of the array of seafood on offer, this has to be one of the more abundantly stocked seafood buffets in Australia. There were oysters au naturel, oysters kilpatrick and cheesy grilled oysters. The oysters themselves were a little on the scrawny side but that could have been related to the season. The prawns had much more substance. There were two varieties on the night we visited. Salmon was prepared a variety of ways (smoked and grilled) as well as rich seafood mornay.
There were the usual rotisserie offerings and a curry /stew or two. The salad bar had the usual antipasti type of offerings. Not a huge range but then again, my attention was diverted to the array of seafood.
The dessert bar was a little on the underwhelming side. It had a couple of cakes, pav and a hot chocolate pudding. The kids attacked the ice creams but for a buffet of this repute, I was expecting more in terms of range.
We really liked it.

Verdict
Overall
If you are a seafood lover, then Terraces Restaurant would fit the bill. However if you are more of a sweets person and was looking for a place to indulge your sweet tooth, then perhaps, this is not the buffet catering to you. The service was a bit brusque towards the end. We were the last table dining at 9:30pm (very early by buffet standards so I'm assuming that most of the other patrons were resort guests with young families). The hint was rather pointedly dropped for us to settle the bill and go.Find it at
