57 Cafe Bar Restaurant, Mount Waverley by Obelix

It was Mamasita's birthday and being smack bang in the middle of a heat wave, she decided a lunch out would be much more preferable than any one of us slaving away over a hot stove to mark the occasion.  Mamasita picked 57 Cafe for its great range of cakes (that's what we had in lieu of an actual birthday cake) and its little courtyard for functions, etc.

57 cafe; pescatarian; seafood risotto, lunch
I decided on the seafood risotto.  I have to say, it was one of the better risottos I have ever tasted.  Generous sized prawns and seafood and the rice was creamy and flavoursome.

57 cafe; chicken parmagiana, lunch
P went for a old favourite - the chicken parma.  He reported it was a tad on the dry side but was pleased with the large serve.

57 cafe; fish and chips, lunch
Young Kiddo went for a kid's fish and chips.  It was plated up with care given it was a kid's meal...She seemed to be impressed with her little basket of chips.

57 cafe; burger and chips, lunch
My sister has been in a bit of a carnivorous jag of late and not surprisingly, she ordered a beef burger with bacon, lettuce and cheese.  It did look rather tempting.

57 cafe; souvlaki and chips, lunch
The birthday girl, Mamasita, had the most impressive plate of all...it was a deconstructed souvlaki with lamb chops, beer battered chips, dips, Greek salad and pita bread.  She loved the seasoning on the chops.  And we couldn't help stealing her chips...

57 cafe; pescatarian; seafood pasta, lunch
The brother-in-law went for the seafood pasta special.  Similar to my risotto, it had heaps of juicy prawns.

57 cafe; toasted focaccia, lunch
Whilst we all gorged and ordered big plates of stuff, my Dad decided to save some tummy room for dessert and ate a modest sized toasted sandwich.

57 cafe; cakes, lunch, coffee
Speaking of desserts, we ordered our chais and lattes in anticipation of a series of cakes which served as the birthday cake.  Mamasita brought her own candles to stick into their very generously sized slabs of cakes.

57 cafe; cakes, lunch
We settled on this orange and pistachio cake based on its vibrant colours.  It was a tad sweet for my liking.

57 cafe; cakes, lunch, coffee
Kiddo's choice was the lemon meringue.  It was suitably tart.

57 cafe; cakes, lunch, coffee
My sister's choice and it was the best one of the cakes in my opinion, was the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake.  Yum!  Not too sweet or tart...perfect with my cup of chai.

Verdict

We really liked it.

Overall

57 Cafe Bar Restaurant is a good go to.  It has a range of foods from sandwiches to mains which would suit most people.  A decent selection of cakes and a pleasant outdoor function area.  Easy parking at Pinewood shopping centre.

Ooh I've never actually been to Cafe 57 but my mum swears by it! That seafood pasta looks top notch.
