Canteen, England by Bureaucrat

On a lazy afternoon, Ms G and I met up for afternoon tea/late lunch (yes, that photo of the exterior was taken in the afternoon...lovely English weather!).

The location was Canteen - an upmarket-ish restaurant that describes itself as doing great(!) British food.

I ordered a slice of chocolate beetroot cake, which was served with soured cream. It was a very moist cake and earthy in taste. Very chocolatey in taste, while the soured cream added some richness to the cake. I couldn't finish this off.

Ms G had the chicory, hazelnut and gorgonzola salad. The chicory looked fresh and crunchy, but I'm not sure if Ms G liked the bitter taste of it.

Ms G also ordered the caramelised onion tart. This looked very nice. However, it took a while for the waiters to bring it out. We had to chase them twice (both times, the different waiters seemed to have no clue as to what was going on), when they brought it out it was the wrong dish. Eventually they got the right dish.

Overall
Nice decor - warm lighting, comfortable surroundings. The food was a cut above average, but the service was a bit lacking. There should have been no reason why Ms G's tart took so long to come out (the restaurant wasn't full when we went). Also, they got our bill wrong - they charged us twice for some dishes...tsk tsk tsk!

Would I come back? Maybe. I might if someone else was keen to try the place, but I wouldn't rush back.
