Young and Foolish, Wheelers Hill by Bureaucrat

Young and Foolish has accomplished a feat.  Its many predecessors (typically they were those unappealing budget pizza and pasta franchises) struggled to attract diners: the location didn't help - it is situated on the exterior of the humdrum Brandon Park shopping centre; and the decor certainly didn't help - drab furnishings and the exposed windows meant that diners were overlooked by shoppers.  However, Young and Foolish is attractive and has no trouble getting diners in.

Young and Foolish, Wheelers Hill, the Doffle
The Doffle - doughnut waffle with toasted marshmallows, Nutella, strawberries and hazelnuts

With a serious upgrade, Young and Foolish is a modern cafe - a much-needed one in the local area.  With a modern menu, lovely interior (cosy horseshoe booths, sheer curtains, amber lighting and smart layout) and friendly staff, it's easy to whittle away a few hours here.

For a long-awaited catch-up Ms W and I had breakfast at Young and Foolish.  Ms W chose two dishes.  The first was the Doffle (see first pic).  This was yummy - I know this because I ate (more than) half of it!  A yeasty, cinnamon-y, fluffy waffle that was light-as-air.

Young and Foolish, Wheelers Hill, poached eggs, spinach, hollandaise sauce
She also created her own breakfast by ordering some poached eggs, spinach and hollandaise sauce.

Young and Foolish, Wheelers Hill, corn fritters with smoked salmon
I went for the corn fritters which came with a generous amount of avocado.  It was served with a sweet corn and capsicum salsa. I asked for scrambled eggs instead of poached eggs.  I also ordered a side of smoked salmon.  The fritters and salsa was very nice.  However, I have to say that I have had better smoked salmon.

Young and Foolish, Wheelers Hill, tea and chai
To whet our whistles, I got a soy chai latte while Ms W went for a pot of tea.

Overall

Young and Foolish is a great boon to Brandon Park shopping centre.  Special mention to the waitress that looked after us - she didn't mind us taking our time (we were too busy gasbagging!) and our various menu requests.

Young and Foolish also have a range of offers - including children eat free at dinner.  I was also impressed with the range of cakes and ice cream so I will definitely will be back to check them out (and to get another chance of eating the Doffle!).
