La Petit Creperie is la cute creperie, utilising an old newsagent stand (I think) on Swanston street to deliver piping hot crepes to the cold burghers of Melbourne. Given the limited space available the number of options offered is impressive, as is the speed at which crepes are delivered when busy. Step up and order then stand back and watch as your crepe is made in front of you, food and entertainment in one.
Everyone has their favourite crepes. Mine is the very simple sugar and butter. The butter melted over the cooking crepe, the sugar sprinkled over the top, when it is cold I just can’t go past it. I am also quite partial to the Nutella and almond, with the almond slivers providing an interesting crunchy texture to the crepe.
Snooze is normally a big fan of salted caramel, not so much here though. I am in her corner on this one as I found it a bit sweet, and may have benefited from a little less strong hand with the caramel. The lemon and sugar though is good, with the tartness of the lemon juice contrasting with the sweetness of the sugar setting my tastebuds tingling.
The one caveat is that the quality of the crepes does seem to vary a little. There is a regular turnover of staff and some appear to be better than others. Consequently one day your crepe can be nicely cooked, then next a little soggy. The result is never a bad crepe, just the difference between ok and very good.
Overall
Quick, filling, hot and sweet. Perfect for those cold winter nights. And I love eating them walking along the street.
