Dining out with Boy Chick means having lunch around 11.30am. As such, sometimes we are limited with the options we're presented with. Usually when we're out and about in Oakleigh, we end up at Meat Me Souvlakerie or Kentro (and then on to Nikos Cakes for some much-needed hit of Greek pastries). However, this time, we wanted to mix things up. And when the friendly staff at Katialo confirmed that the lunch menu was available at 11am, we parked ourselves at one of their outdoor tables.
Seafood is always on the agenda when we're at a Greek restaurant. And so we couldn't pass up the opportunity to have grilled octopus. This was a juicy, tender and meaty tentacle. Simply seasoned with oregano, lemon and olive oil this was so, so moreish. While the solitary tentacle may look meagre to some, I can assure you that this was a good sized serving. It came with a squeaky fresh salad.
We love white bait and this delightful basket was pretty tasty. A generous amount of these tiny fishies, which had a light batter. Oh-so-delicious! There was so much of it that we had to take some home in a takeaway container.
I also ordered a grilled chicken skewer in the hopes that I could entice Boy Chick to eat something more than hot chips for his lunch. As a mother, I was disappointed that his meal ended up being solely potato-centric. As a foodie, I was more than happy to scarf this down. As with the other two dishes, this was simple yet so, so good. The chicken was tender and was very delicious with the red onion slivers and aioli. Truly, a case of eating with your fingers can make a dish taste even better!
The Lawyer went for a Greek coffee.
While Boy Chick had a chocolate milkshake.
Verdict
Overall
Katialo is our new favourite Greek restaurant in the Eaton Mall area. The food was fresh and so well prepared. The service was also commendable. Our waitress was so friendly and happy to help. We can't wait to go back!Find it at
