Fish of the day
We couldn't decide what to order so on a whim, we opted for the $55 per person "Feed Me" and fed us they did. I left a bit regretful that my stomach capacity was not greater to cram it all in. True South's Feed Me option is really anything goes. They work around any food intolerance and you can nominate any dish you wish to be included.
It started innocuous enough, with little warm rolls and olive dip. I was secretly a bit worried it would be teeny tiny plates of tapas and I would be left hungry. But I was soon proven wrong.
Then came one of my favourite 'small plates', the fish taco, Taco de Pescado, Ensalada de Palmitos. The barely seared tuna cubes were marinated with something yum. I couldn't quite place the ingredients in the marinade but whatever it was, it blended so well with the avocado and palm hearts. The tacos were crispy and deep fried (love) - it sure beats the Old El Paso taco kits I normally serve at home.
We were then presented with little pork sliders on brioche buns, the Bocaditos de Cerdo. The pork was tender and slow cooked.
Then came A's pick - the calamari. This was the Ensada de Calamar. Deep fried calamari with chickpea, feta and eggplant. She's had this before and thoroughly recommended it. It was good but in my humble opinion, did not top the fish taco.
My pick was the twice cooked pork knuckle, Pata de cerdo en doble Coccino. It unfortunately did not live up to my expectations. The crackling was not crispy 😓 as the bean cassoulet it sat in overwhelmed it.
However the dishes that came after the pork knuckle were stellar.
We had the slow cooked lamb shoulder, Cordero Asado, a full 500g braised shoulder. It sat on a bed of roasted potatoes. It was the stuff of Sunday roast dreams. Tender meat, falling off the bone. Loads of rosemary flavouring it.
We were also presented with the fish of the day (see first pic). By which time, I was too full to attack it with the vigour it deserved. It was served on a bed of potato salad with little capers. The combo of flavours were amazing. If only it arrived earlier in the evening...
The mains came with a serve of rice salad, Moros y Cristianos. On a leaner day, I would have loved this. However there was just too many delicious mains to compete with.
There's a separate stomach for desserts. So despite being full of mains and tapas, there was capacity for the sweets.
Being an Argentinian restaurant, of course, there were churros.
However my pick of desserts was the pumpkin spiced cheesecake. So fluffy and cinnamon spiced. Yum.
