Perhaps it was the Spring in the air, P was in an unusually sprightly mood and ordered himself a lychee and elderflower margarita to kick things off. It was described to him as a frozen slurry of lychees steeped in alcohol - a decadent slurpee, if you will. He was sold.
Kiddo and I enjoyed the house made sodas. Ginger and passionfruit for her; and lime and tumeric for me.
We ordered a sampling of things to share. Kiddo had to have her chargrilled corn which had just the right about of cheesy coating.
P and I shared the tortilla chips with guacamole and pico de gallo. These were perfect with the drinks.
For mains, we shared the rock ling burrito. This was my pick of the bunch. It was substantial - filled with quinoa and black bean; cabbage and pickled carrot with the ubiquitous salsa and aioli.
P enjoyed the Mexican City pulled pork quesadilla. The lime and pineapple salsa gave it a sweet and tangy taste.
Kiddo liked the grilled chicken quesadilla, particularly its side of jalapeno and basil aioli, which incidentally went very well with the burrito also.
I loved the decor of this place - it was strewn with interesting desert plants - cacti and euphorbias. Love.
The service was attentive and prompt too - ideal for a mid week dinner when its all about expediency.
Verdict
Overall
Fonda Mexican is a solid go-to for Mexican. Good drinks menu and plenty of assorted offerings to share. They also do Deliveroo which is useful in extreme cases of "can't-be-bothers".Find it at
