The Lawyer and I shared two entrees. First up, an entree of sashimi and sushi. I'm not the biggest raw seafood fan but even I liked this. The Lawyer loved the fresh seafood and wolfed this up.
I, on the other hand, wolfed down the takoyaki (octopus balls). Piping hot mash potatoes which held a big nugget of octopus inside. The takoyaki were a bit softer than most places but it was still yummy. Loved the bonito flakes on top. Yum.
For mains, the Lawyer ordered a ramen - this one came with pork and spinach. He was quite happy with it and slurped up the soup. The soup was simple and tasty but it didn't seem like it had been the type where it is simmered for hours on end.
My katsu don was also simple but very tasty. The pork was deliciously marinated and tender; and I loved the sauce and how it mingled with the piping hot rice. The steamed egg on top gave the dish a lovely richness.
Verdict
Overall
Nuts Chan is a simple suburban Japanese restaurant. It ain't fancy but it is nonetheless is dishing out quite tasty fare. There's a homely feel to the cooking and sometimes that's better than any high-faluting cuisine. Prices are very reasonable and the place had a steady stream of people coming in for dine-in and takeaway. Service is friendly.Find it at
