I've taken quite a fancy to High Street, Ashburton. It's a lovely mix of cafes, lifestyle shops and food stores with a friendly, unpretentious neighbourhood vibe. Two Seeds is one of the more newer cafes that have set up shop. We went there for Mr Strong's birthday and just loved the food that was served. It's cafe-style food with a semi Asian-fusion twist to it. The result is just simply delicious grub! With the Entertainment Book dining offer, we got up to $30 off our bill (click on these links to find out how we're raising money for FareShare by asking our Aussie readers to buy a copy of the 2016-17 Entertainment Book).
Mother Hen chose this absolutely delish fusion lemongrass pork dish. With Vietnamese-inspired flavours, the pan-fried pork pieces were tender and loaded with aromatic lemongrass. As Mother Hen and I consider that pork should always have some fat, this dish had a very nice balance of meat and juicy fattiness to it - perfect! It was served with a lovely fried egg, with the golden yolk oozing over the mound of rice. I couldn't help but sneak a few forkfuls off her plate!
Mr Strong chose one of the specials - a pasta primavera, which he enjoyed. It was a big bowl of al dente spaghetti with lots and lots of fresh tender veg tossed through it. Deeply savoury in flavour and filling.
The Lawyer chose a steak sandwich, served with focaccia bread. He loved this dish.
I was equally enthusiastic with my panko-crumbed chicken fillet, which was served on a super fresh and crunchy salad that was loaded with sugar snap peas, fennel, orange segments, rocket and brazil nuts. Filling and healthy - wonderful!
I forget exactly what Beaker ordered, but I think it was corn fritters, which came with poached eggs, salad and chips.
Mr P ordered an impressively sized burger, which came with chips and aioli.
While Bubba Chuck had the kids' fish and chips.
We also got a few chais and coffees to go with our meal.
Verdict
We loved it.Overall
A really great cafe with amazingly tasty offerings! Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area (it's easily accessible if you're travelling by train, as the Ashburton train station is just a minute's walk away). For me, it's definitely the stand-out cafe on the High Street shopping strip. The only quibble is that the volume of the background music is rather loud, which makes it a wee difficult to hold a conversation.
