In keeping with the goal of dining in suburbs that we don't usually go to, we picked Gramercy Bistro for a family birthday lunch. As with our family dinner earlier this month at Cafe Florentine in Brighton, we made good use of the Gold Card, which comes with the 2016-17 Entertainment Book. For this meal, we got 25% off the total bill up to a value of $50 (which equated to getting one of the main dishes for free). (Click on these links to find out how we're raising money for FareShare by asking our Aussie readers to buy a copy of the 2016-17 Entertainment Book).
For me, I picked the grilled hangar steak with watercress salad, Bearnaise sauce and fries. I asked for the steak to be well done and it was still quite tender and juicy.
Beaker chose the pan-fried salmon with broccolini. While she thought the salmon looked small, it turned out to be a quite a hefty fillet.
Mother Hen and Mr Strong shared two dishes for their meal. The first an entree - a lovely golden serve of deep fried squid.
The second was the steak sandwich. The Lawyer also picked this for his meal. They all seemed to enjoy the juicy tender slices of steak and crusty bread.
Mr P opted for a breakfast menu item - a simple but good fry up.
Bubba Chuck chose something off the kids' menu - a wood-fired cheese and tomato pizza, which also came with ice cream for dessert.
...and a couple of Chai lattes.
Verdict
We liked it.Overall
The food was reasonable and fairly well priced. Service was attentive, although it took just a wee while for the food to come out. The bistro has a contemporary vibe to it. The only thing that bothered me was the volume of the background music - it was just loud enough to make talking across the table a bit of a task.Find it at
