When is the best time of day to eat desserts? Anytime! Over the Easter long weekend, the Lawyer and I were more than delighted to be invited to review Damon Bradley - one of the newer restaurants in Southgate Melbourne. As a restaurant that specialises in decadent desserts it proved mighty difficult to decide what we wanted to try - we were the proverbial children in a candy shop!
The Lawyer was torn between ordering the Chocolate Fudge Ferrero Waffle, the Flourless Chocolate Cake (which is served with chocolate gelato) and the Bradley Bear sundae. He ended up choosing the sundae which was absolutely divine - I know this because, well you know, I just had to try some for myself! It came with two scoops of vanilla ice cream, one scoop of honeycomb ice cream, chocolate brownies, warm chocolate fudge sauce, caramel sauce, crushed honeycomb pieces and topped with whipped cream. What we both loved the best was the honeycomb - this was the proper stuff (and not some mass produced choc-honeycomb confectionery bar, if you know what I mean). The ice cream was creamy and full of dairy goodness... lovely!
Some of the many gorgeous cakes, chocolates, lollies and biscuits to tempt you
Despite being very tempted with the Velvety Red (layers of red velvet cake served in a glass with double cream, fudge, fresh strawberries and strawberry sauce) and the banana and salted caramel crepes, I chose the apple and walnut crepes. The two crepes came with warm caramelised maple apples and sultanas and served with vanilla bean ice cream and walnuts. It was a gorgeous combination of autumnal flavours and I was impressed with the generous amount of apples and walnuts that came with it.
Even more decadent delights to tempt you...
For drinks, I went for a lovely pot of orange pekoe tea while the Lawyer couldn't resist the peanut butter hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was one of the best we've ever had. If you've had an Italian hot chocolate before you'll know that the texture is richer and 'fuller' on your tongue. The peanut butter hot chocolate at Damon Bradley is like an Italian hot chocolate but on steroids! It's gorgeously thick and creamy. We were also impressed with the strong salted peanut butter that's incorporated into the drink. This was so rich that the Lawyer had to take the rest of his home in a takeaway cup - it's a dessert in its own right!
Petit fours
While there are 20 pages of desserts on offer, there is a reasonable range of sandwiches and baguettes available too. Naturally, there's also high tea options and a children's menu. And if you're in mood for some celebrating, all the desserts come with matching wines - and there's even a range of dessert martinis.
Verdict
We loved it.Overall
We loved the desserts at Damon Bradley. While the desserts are obviously sweet they weren't sickly sweet and we didn't experience a sugar high. It's definitely a treat for yourself and well worth it!The service is super friendly and prompt. Lots of kids came through while we were there and you could tell the staff were more than happy to help them pick out their treats.

These desserts look amazing! Can't wait to visit Melbourne to try this :) Especially when most places serve those mass produced honeycomb.
Hi Yvonn, definitely worth checking this out! I can't wait to go back to try the salted caramel and banana crepes :D
