Le Croissant is a proper French bakery ie not a pseudo French style one - you know what I mean? She chose the following from the top right:
- Chocolate éclair. Lovely chocolate crème filled versus bog standard normal cream. So very chocolately if you are into that sort of thing
- Mille feuille. Glutt cannot pronounce this properly no matter what but nonetheless it was delicious. It is essentially a posh vanilla slice but the pastry is so much more flakier and in all honestly anything custard related has to be divine.
- Rum baba. Moist! This babe was alcohol sodden. Which is a good thing.
- Strawberry cheesecake. A dense texture without being too sweet.
- Strawberry tart (centre). No complaints there. The fruit was fresh as sometimes fruit on tarts tend to be a bit close to their expiry date. Balanced crust to fruit to custard lining ratio.
And I loved the cute business card, which I've purloined and I'll use as bookmark.
Verdict - we loved it.
Overall
Mais oui! We'll definitely return to LCPF to try more delectable pastries, including the savoury ones. Pity the place is only set up for takeaway only.
Thanks for posting this blog. Someone recommended Le Croissant and it's good to see it's worth the trip to find it. I wonder if she makes Buche de Noel?
ReplyDeleteThere's another French patisserie in South Croydon called La Brioche. Very nice, and since I pronounced mille feuille correctly she spoke French to me from then on.
Happy Christmas.
Hi anonymous! Yes le croissant is definitely a proper French patisserie & they are a bit hard to come by in melbourne. I haven't seen a Buche de noël there but that's not to say they can't make one on special request. We normally get a cake sized Mille feuille made up for birthdays. I haven't heard of la brioche but would love to check it out :)
ReplyDeleteBonne annee!
