To stand us in good stead for our drive back into Melbourne, we rambled into the Beechworth Pantry for a good breakfast.
Inside, it's a slightly odd layout - in the middle of the place, there is a long corridor that leads you in, with tables set out along side the corridor. Along the walls, lots of regional jars, bottles and tins of yumminess are displayed for sale.
At the counter, there's a nice spread of deli ingredients, pies, cheeses and sangers.
To kick things off, the Lawyer got a latte...
...while I got a warming pot of herbal tea, which included ginger and lemon. There were other things in it, but I forgot to write down what they were. I liked how it came with an extra pot of hot water.
For food, the Lawyer got the full breakfast. A fairly big plate of the standard full breakfast items. It's certainly not the fanciest version of it, but boy, was it tasty! It was another example of when you've got great, fresh produce that you don't need to do very much to make it taste wonderful. Fresh poached eggs with golden yolks, flavoursome bacon that was properly crispy, lightly sauteed plump mushrooms and a tomato that actually tasted like a tomato should be (i.e., it wasn't a watery, bland tom). There was also a Cumberland style sausage (hidden under the bacon and mushies). Chewy, country bread. Everything was bursting full of its natural flavours - a real treat, this was!
I got the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. As with the Lawyer's dish, this was simple ingredients but the taste was exceptional. Fluffy eggs with a hint of gooey egg inside - just the way I like it. The smoked salmon one of the best that I've ever had. There was more salmon than what appears in the photo. Great texture, thin slices and while it had a lovely deep smokey flavour, it wasn't in-your-face or too salty.

Overall
A nice country breakfast. When we came in, we were told that there would be a 20 minute wait on food as they were catering to an unexpected large table. We didn't mind, and enjoyed our drinks while we waited, and I took the time to peruse the many foodstuff on sale. Service was friendly. Everything was simple and really, really good.
