La Table du Chateau, Mauritius by Obelix

Domaine de Labourdonnais is a magnificent neo-classical house built in the 1800s by Christian Wiehe. It’s reminiscent of the grand homes in Gone With The Wind.

The grounds itself is filled with meticulously maintained greenery which makes my heart sing. Also on its grounds is La Table du Chateau, a restaurant serving a modern take on Mauritian classics.

Shot of lemonade

We started our meals with a shot of lemonade which served as an amuse bouche and a bread basket served with achar (pickles) and butter.

La Table du Chateau, Mauritius, foie gras
We ordered a few entrees to share. First, a foie gras served alongside caramelised onions and toast embedded with crystallised fruit, lending it a sweet flavour profile. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the savoury richness of the terrine with the sweet fruity toast.

La Table du Chateau, Mauritius, truffle scallops
The second entree was succulent little scallops imbued with truffle-y flavour served on fingers of toast.

La Table du Chateau, Mauritius, chicken and prawn curr
My main was a Mauritian chicken and prawn curry. I believe as per the menu, it had banana in the curry sauce which thankfully I couldn’t really see nor taste. It was aromatic without the heat. It came with a tomato and peanut chutney, rice and a little bowl of lentil soup. It was a lovely soup, with a rich mouth feel.

La Table du Chateau, Mauritius, sausage rougaille
P’s Creole sausage rougaille also came with the same accompaniments.

La Table du Chateau, Mauritius, vegetarian ravioli
The vegetarian selection only has two choices to pick from. Kiddo decided on the vegetarian ravioli which came beautifully assembled with clouds of mascarpone contrasting with crispy deep fried root vegetables.
