Madeline's at Jells, Wheelers Hill by Obelix

It was my nephew's first birthday and we congregated at Madeline's in Jells Park for brunch to celebrate.  It was a strategically selected venue.  Spacious enough inside with playground and walking circuit down to the lake outside.

Madeline's serves all day breakfast with lunch and afternoon offerings within set times.  As we gathered outside of lunch hours, we selected menu items from their breakfast menu.

As far as breakfast menus go, I was pleasantly surprised by the choice available.  Yes, there was the obligatory Big Breakfasts replete with eggs done your way, bacon, hash browns, mushies, tomato, spinach and sausages.

This was popular on our table with punters ordering eggs scrambled, poached and sunny side up.  If push comes to shove, you could adequately feed two people with one big breakfast.

Then there were more the interesting breakfast offerings.  I had a charcoal burger.  I cannot go pass anything that is noir, be it squid ink pasta or charcoal buns.  It's the novelty factor.

My burger was stuffed with breakfasty things such as bacon, an oozy fried egg, spinach and relish.  It was delicious and substantial for brekkie.  If I was to order next time, I would replace the relish with regular ketchup.  Seems more fitting that way with the bacon.

My mum had one of the daily specials which was an interesting savoury pumpkin scone.  It was so beautifully assembled on the plate with slivers of roast beets, poached egg and bits of rhubarb.

Kiddo ordered herself banana bread (see first pic).  Whilst I was expecting literally a slice off a loaf, the resulting plate was prettily arranged with edible flowers, vanilla butter and crystalised sugary bits on top.

I very much enjoyed the soy chai.  Especially nursing a warm cup of this whilst gazing out to the wintery morning outside.  Other drinks ordered were a hot chocolate for Kiddo and lattes all round.
