RSPCA’s Choose Wisely initiative

This week, RSPCA launched its Choose Wisely initiative, which is focused on asking all Australians to support humanely produced food when eating out.  As foodies, we think this is a great idea and would love it if our dear readers would also support this initiative.

Choosewisely.org.au is a simple online directory that makes it easy for everyone to do their bit to improve the lives of farm animals produced for food.  Many of us would already be choosing free-range and other humane options when at the market or supermarket, as it is important to buy animal products that have been raised and treated humanely.  This campaign is an extension of that - encouraging the same level of awareness at the hospitality level. Unfortunately, there's a long way to go before consumer awareness and action around dining choices matches that of shopping choices.

The RSPCA wants to help customers make a better choice for animal welfare when dining out.  The Choose Wisely search tool, which includes hundreds of businesses, makes it easy for people who are dining out to find businesses serving humanely produced food, such as cage-free eggs.

Simply type in the postcode or suburb where you want to eat at and Choose Wisely will list all the restaurants in the area that use humanely produced foods.
