PJ O'Brien's, Southbank by Bureaucrat

PJ O’Brien’s brings back memories of my uni days.  I remember going there, along with the now closed Pugg Mahones, for decent pub grub.  It’s been many years since I’ve been back to PJ but with an Entertainment Card voucher, the Lawyer and I decided to take a trip down memory lane. The side bar is quite comfy and plush for a pub - clean tables, nice cushioned chairs, velvety drapes and gleaming surfaces.

During the week they have a $20 lunch deal – you get a choice of about five mains and a pint.

Sadly, the food wasn’t as good as we both had remembered it to be.  My fish and chips was okay but the two small fillets of fish didn’t fill me up.  There was a small salad and lots of chips, though.

The Lawyer’s steak sanger was better.  A minute steak, bacon, toms and lettuce on Turkish bread.  This tasted okay but it wasn’t memorable.

Instead of the pint, we both ordered soft drinks.

Verdict
Food – 6
Ambiance – 7
Service – 6.5
Price – 6

Overall
For twenty bucks, we didn’t feel the lunch deal was particularly good value.  Fortunately, we had our Entertainment Book voucher, which reduced the cost down to $30.  Them good old days of a hearty, rustic pub meal seem to be a thing of the past.
