Rush Munro's, Hastings (NZ) by Big Fil

Rush Munro is a New Zealand ice cream tradition. While its main shop is in Hastings on Hawke's Bay, we saw outlets selling this ice-cream in a number of North Island locations.

The shop is a bit of a walk away from the main tourist drag but the setup is great. Lots of terracotta pots, greenery and flowers. A nice spot to sit and eat your ice-cream but very quiet on the day we were there.

Most importantly, what does it taste like? Advertised as containingreal fruit only with no preservatives or colours it is very good ice-cream. Probably the best way to describe it is to compare it with the best takeaway ice-cream I know of in Melbourne; Jocks in South Melbourne. While different in style I'd rate them very similar in terms of quality. Jock's is more delicately flavoured, less sweet and creamy (at least compared to Rush Munro), but offers a wider variety of unusual but spot on accurate and delicious flavours like baked apple, gingerbread and cinnamon. Rush Munro on the other hand is all about the creamy texture, big flavours and generous serves. Rush Munro also offers one of my all time favourite flavours which is hard to find in Australia, maple and walnut.

Overall
Great, creamy ice cream at good prices. Well worth the diversion on a warm Hasting's day.
