About us - the Eat and Be Merry Crew

Hello fellow foodie!

Welcome to our food blog.  The Eat And Be Merry Crew is a group of Melbournians who are friends and love eating out. Want to eat somewhere that’s in your neighbourhood, on the other side of town or involves a seven hour drive? We’ve probably been there!

Big Fil loves hunting around local neighbourhoods to find authentic cheap and cheerful good eats (such as Green Coriander Mauritian Café in Dandenong, Co Thu Quan in Footscray and My Cambodia in Springvale).  He also gives us the low down on the foodie scene in his hometown of Adelaide, as well as in his favourite destinations in New Zealand and Hong Kong.

He teams up with Snooze and together they’re quite the connoisseurs when it comes to the Melbourne breakfast café scene.  They definitely know a thing or two about breakfasts as this early morning duo has savoured caramelized pear, almond and walnut pancakes served with vanilla mascarpone, rhubarb and blueberry compote, fresh mint and Canadian maple syrup at Lolo & Wren in Brunswick; corn and zucchini fritters, with avocado, spinach, chilli tomato relish and a poached egg at Hammer and Tong in Fitzroy; and baked eggs with lamb sausage, tabouleh, tahini yoghurt and grilled bread at Chez Dre in South Melbourne.

Having lived in London for a few years, Bureaucrat ate her way across Europe.  She loves a good fixe prix menu and no distance is too far for a gourmet experience.  The furthest she’s travelled is almost 550 kilometres from Melbourne to Mildura to enjoy the degustation menu at Stefano de Pieri’s restaurant and she thought it was well worth the 14 hour return car trip.  Also taking a 14 hour return trip (440 kilometres by public transport, no less) was her pilgrimage to Rick Stein’s seafood restaurant in Padstow, UK.  She’s also loves discovering great cafes and providores in regional Victoria and New South Wales.

Obelix is an indiscriminate eater.  She enthusiastically tucks away into both cheap eats (Malaysian Kitchen in Doncaster East) and more luxe eats (Merchant Osteria Veneta in Melbourne).  Obelix is partial to a R&R holiday every so often so there will invariably be blog posts about eats abroad (Red House Seafood in Singapore) or interstate (Omeros Seafood Bros in Queensland).  Obelix is often accompanied by Kiddo, so many of the places she reviews are family friendly.  If you like to ogle at food porn, you are in good company with Obelix.  She mans our Instagram account which is filled with pics of all the Crew's eatings as well as food porn from markets and her own kitchen.

The rest of the Crew (Benny, Chewy, Foghorn Leghorn, Iron Man, Kit Kat, Mmm, Ms Counting Her Calories, Ruby Grapefruit) are with us as we eat our way across Melbourne and are always there with suggestions of where our next foodie experience.

As the saying goes, let’s eat and be merry for tomorrow we diet!
